Flowering Horse - Art Therapy

A look at a newly finished piece from the Carousel Animals Coloring Book.

It's been a long time since I have been able to post; work has been very consuming lately and frankly I haven't had energy left for much other than some tv in bed before sleep.

I have a piece to share today from the Carousel Animals book; I love love love this book and will have more to share over the next few days too.
This piece was completed shortly after my seahorse; however it was a matter of finding time to post :) It features a gorgeously ethereal horse with flowing mane and flowering wreaths. To me it's very reminiscent of the centaurs from Fantasia (my favourite Disney movie from my childhood)

I picked out a soft pink and grey palette which allowed me to keep the flowers vibrant, eye catching, and the focus. As you can see it of course is not a huge match to the Disney centaurs (above), but there were some similarities which really made me feel nostalgic :)

Although you can't see it, the saddle blanket is decorated with metallic gold - it really only pops on an angle to the light.
For this piece I again used Prismacolor pencils. I picked out some soft cream pinks, neutral beige and medium-dark greys/charcoals. I love the there are fluro Prismacolors, i used the pink one to highlight the ribbon.

I also used some vibrant greens for the leaves, which added to the focus aspect I feel.

Shading was surprisingly easy with this palette; I tend to struggle with darks and excel in lighter areas, so it was a quick piece I finished in one evening without much effort. Again I put a few sheets of paper underneath, as they tend to transfer the print on the backside to the following page.

I hope you enjoyed this piece; I'll have more to come soon as I can't put this book down it seems!
Thanks for reading x
