Carousel Seahorse - Art Therapy

A look at a newly finished piece from the Carousel Animals Coloring Book.

This post will be short & sweet because I am super tired after 6 hours sleep on a 12 hour work day! Phew!
I'll do a in depth review in my next post featuring a piece from this book; fingers crossed for later in the week. I've been smashed with work and am finding spare time rather scarce.

The Carousel Animals Colouring Book is fast becoming a favourite for me; it really tugs at my nostalgia-heartstrings with both the colouring factor, plus pretty horses. I was a big horse fan as a kid, I had a giant collection of those Saddle Club & Pony Pals books... lol.
Anyhow, the designs are super fun and whimsical; and there's a lot of room for shading work. This piece was also the first piece I tried out my new Prismacolor set on as well.

I had a lot of fun working with the shading and colour gradients. The Prismacolor pencils are a dream to work with, but personally I find I really need to keep them sharpened almost 100% of the time when doing the finer delicate shading like with this piece. It may be common sense, but I suppose at the end of the day it depends on how you prefer to color. Some people care little about blunter pencils etc. I do think with the design type, and paper quality, you want to have a good pencil set where you can do your work lightly. Too much heaviness in the hand will create problems (more in my review next time).

All in all it was a simple piece that took me several hours to complete. At first I was hesitant for the typical sea/marine/aqua colour scheme, but in hindsight I absolutely love what I chose. The camera did struggle to pick up the colour accurately; it is shown lighter than in real life and the tail is much more saturated than shown.

Carousel Animals Coloring Book is available from multiple online retails, though I purchased mine from the Book Depository for roughly $8 AUD with free shipping.

Thanks for reading! x
