Decor - Sleep Spot

Recently I've replaced some of our bedding as we are heading into cold winter evenings. I'm a huge bed-bug who loves to burrow in during the cooler months, so having a pleasing aesthetic is a must.

I love bed. No, really, I do.
Besides the obvious bed activities, I love to spend a lot of time in my room doing relaxing things like reading, colouring or watching a good movie. I'm also a big daydreamer and can easily pass hours in that twilight transition between alertness and dozing.

Unfortunately over the last few years I've developed debilitating anxiety issues; most of which culminated in panic attacks in bed when I was trying to sleep.  It got to the point where my partner had to stay awake until I fell asleep - which is really unhealthy, and not good for him either.
Before I started my medication I made an attempt to re-cheer up the room I once looked forward to visiting every night. Going to bed used to be a highlight of my day, then over time it was something I dreaded so much I was often in tears before I even stepped foot in there.
I revisited my childhood a little - bought some fairy lantern lights & glow in the dark stars for the ceiling; and my lovely boy gifted me a lava lamp just like the one I used to have when I was younger.

Slowly I am making the space back from one of fear to one of relaxation and peace. The transition is mental, but I do think visually some changes are helping.

Through this process I've replaced some bedding items - much of which was only 4-5 years old but was lacking in quality or the palette was too dark/dreary for me. I really wanted pieces that worked well together, and made me feel calm.

DOVE QUILT COVER SET by Country Style
$169+ AUD - shop here
I searched ALL the linen retailers for a perfect tan/taupe simplistic quilt cover set. I found some that I liked, but were either over $200 (we have a king size) or out of stock. Then I found this simplistic beauty on thriftstore Ozsale for under $110 including postage.

Hilton Knit Weave 360gsm Cotton Blanket
$29+ AUD - shop here
Lovely and soft, we purchased this in king size from Pillowtalk - and on sale, yay! I often like to have an accent blanket or throw on the bed to tie room together, but it's also practical for us both in winter and summer as it's light enough for the less-humid summer nights.

Mercer + Reid  Dusk Cushion
$29.95+ AUD - shop here
This delicate & super sweet cushion is from Adairs; expensive but I couldn't pass it up.The front has the detailed bunny illustration with watercolour accents, the reverse is a neutral tan finish. Love it.

Home Republic  Montana Fur Cushion Grey Wolf
$37.45+ AUD - shop here
Also from Adairs was this fur cushion, and also on sale. I like the fur addition for something a little more 'wild' to tie everything together. Realistically it's a less practical piece for a bed, since it is mostly an 'embellishment', but that's ok to me.

I also picked up some complimentary taupe 500TC sheets (not pictured) as we're moving away slowly from using anything under. In winter my skin is super dry, delicate and is prone to aching - so I want to look after it as well as I can and especially sleep on something a little more comfortable than 250TC. We do have a few 500 and higher sets, but frankly some are poor quality and already balling. After a bit of research I'll be making sure to buy my TC sheets from reputable sellers like Adairs - not Catch of the Day or Ozsale.

However, I happy that I managed to make a complimentary set out of items found on sale/discount; overall what should have cost me almost spot on $420 AUD ended up costing $303 AUD. For a king bed - new quilt set, king blanket and four cushions. Not bad at all, consider MOST king quilt sets retail from $200 up. So I am satisfied, and looking forward to putting this on my bed asap. I'm still searching for the perfect accents for my other two favourite sets, so hopefully I'll have a few more Sleep Spots on the blog over the next few months.

Thank you for reading!
