Transitional Geometric - Art Therapy

A look at a newly finished piece from the Pattern & Design Colouring Book Volume 1 by Jenean Morrison.

So I have already shared a piece from this book; which also goes over the application and paper type. you can find that here if you would like more information.

This piece is rather detailed; it did take me around a month to finish but primarily that's because I had hardly any time to spare for it. For two weeks I didn't even touch it. Someone who had the time each day would easily complete it in a few days.

I really enjoyed the style of this one; I do find I am leaning heavily towards the geometric stylised pieces and Arabesque-types. Maybe it's my inner control freak loving the conformity and safety/repetitiveness of them. No surprises with these ones :P

I also like the palette I picked, all those warm tones with a hint of bold cool. It's definitely one of my more favourite pieces. About halfway through I did lag a little, just because it is of course a little intricate.
If you look closely at the small floral pieces (the ones with the purple-pink outer petals) towards the top left - you can see that the little brown petal-spokes stick out. This part I noticed was supposed to be hidden under the rest of the design, but for one angular row through this piece they were over the top, not bottom. I found that a bit irritating.  I'll pop a picture below:

So it's not a huge deal; but is noticeable especially when you have a repetitive layout like this. So what has been seen, cannot be unseen.

For this piece I used Staedtler Triplus 0.3mm Fineliners that we see I use most frequently. I have got a brand new addition of a big set of the Stabilo Point 88 0.4mm Fineliners (I LOVE back-to-school packs!) but I haven't started using them just yet. I was thinking of doing a comparison post, but frankly it's pretty obvious that even though not all the colours match (only 2 or 3 do) ultimately you don't need both unless you're like me and have to have all the things.

I am really loving this book quite a a lot; but I have noticed the more often I flick through it the more hastily it seems thrown together. There's some lovely geometric, arabesque-stylised and transitional floral pieces but the other half it the sort of girlish-cheap floral pieces you find on wrapping paper in the $2 store. The big bold round flowers you associated with young girls bedsheets from the 2000's.
I'll be putting up a few more tabs shortly, one to catalog my swatches for cosmetics, and another to keep a one-picture overview of each colouring piece I complete along with links. So in future you can check there, and you'll see what I mean re: girl's quilt cover styles.
